Deputy Chief Executive - Labour Group:

Lesley Haines leads the Labour Group of Department of Labour. The Labour Group delivers services to stakeholders related to employment relationships and workplace health and safety, to help build healthy and productive workplaces. This includes work ensuring the quality of the legislative framework and related standards, and assisting workplace participants by providing information and self-help tools, disputes resolution assistance and enforcement activities. We contribute to fair, safe and productive workplaces, for New Zealanders.

Lesley joined the Department in 2005, and prior to joining the Labour Group, worked in Workforce Group dealing with immigration and employment, as Group Manager Policy and Acting Deputy Secretary Workforce.

Lesley holds a Masters of Economics from the Australian National University and has worked in the New Zealand Public Service for the last twenty years. Prior to the joining the Department of Labour Lesley held policy and management roles in the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, the Treasury and in the social policy sector.
